Arranging roadside safety measures and replacing the left tyre on a semi-trailer on the A6 in Saarbrücken

On 30 June 2026, the owner of a transport company contacted the MT onroad dispatch team because the semi-trailer had sustained tyre damage. The truck with the semi-trailer was stationary on the A6 motorway in Saarbrücken, immediately adjacent to the German-French border, on a widened section of the former border control area. Its direction of travel was towards Germany. The damaged tyre, size 435/50 R19.5, was on the left side of the semi-trailer’s first lift axle.

Because the technician had to work on the left-hand side of the semi-trailer facing the carriageway, roadside safety measures were required for this case. Finding a mobile service provider and the replacement cost

Within 15 minutes of confirming the location, the MT onroad dispatcher found a mobile service provider willing to replace the 435/50 R19.5 tyre at the stopping location. The service cost €900. This included the technician’s travel to the breakdown location and back, a new Yartu 435/50 R19.5 tyre, fitting and disposal of the removed tyre. Arranging roadside safety measures for the technician

Because the technician had to work on the left-hand side of the semi-trailer, adjacent to the motorway carriageway, the MT onroad dispatcher asked the customer whether the police had already been called to secure the work area. The customer explained that the driver could not arrange this himself and asked MT onroad for help.

The dispatcher called the police to arrange the required roadside safety measures (Absicherung) for the duration of the replacement work. MT onroad then sent the customer a short message in German. It confirmed that roadside assistance had already been arranged and provided the dispatch team’s contact details. If the driver was approached by police officers or road authority staff, he could show them the message as confirmation that assistance had already been arranged and that MT onroad could be reached using the contact details provided.

While the safety measures were being coordinated, the police initially could not find the customer’s vehicle at the location provided. The dispatcher reconfirmed the stopping location and direction of travel with the customer. The customer confirmed the same location on the A6 towards Germany. MT onroad then provided the details to the police again and continued coordinating the roadside safety measures. The customer subsequently confirmed that the required safety measures for the work area had been arranged.

Result – replacement completed

On site, the technician replaced the damaged left tyre on the semi-trailer and fitted a new Yartu 435/50 R19.5 tyre. The customer then confirmed to MT onroad that the work was complete.
