Arranging roadside safety measures and replacing the left tyre on a semi-trailer on the A6 in Saarbrücken
Semi-trailer, A6 Saarbrücken: left 435/50 R19.5 tyre damaged. MT onroad agreed the price before dispatch and called the police for Absicherung; tyre replaced
- Location A6 motorway, Saarbrücken, near the German-French border, Germany
- Date 15/07/2026
- ETA 15 min
- Final price € 900
On 30 June 2026, the owner of a transport company contacted the MT onroad dispatch team because the semi-trailer had sustained tyre damage. The truck with the semi-trailer was stationary on the A6 motorway in Saarbrücken, immediately adjacent to the German-French border, on a widened section of the former border control area. Its direction of travel was towards Germany. The damaged tyre, size 435/50 R19.5, was on the left side of the semi-trailer’s first lift axle.

Because the technician had to work on the left-hand side of the semi-trailer facing the carriageway, roadside safety measures were required for this case. In addition to arranging a mobile truck tyre service, MT onroad contacted the police at the customer’s request to arrange the required roadside safety measures (Absicherung) for the technician’s work.

The owner of the transport company sent the following details via WhatsApp to arrange the call-out:
- Vehicle: semi-trailer;
- Axle: first axle of the semi-trailer, lift axle;
- Side: left;
- Tyre size: 435/50 R19.5;
- Rim: intact, according to the customer;
- Location: A6 in Saarbrücken near the German-French border;
- Direction of travel: towards Germany.
Before looking for a suitable mobile service provider, an MT onroad specialist reconfirmed the exact stopping location and direction of travel with the customer.
Finding a mobile service provider and the replacement cost
Within 15 minutes of confirming the location, the MT onroad dispatcher found a mobile service provider willing to replace the 435/50 R19.5 tyre at the stopping location. The service cost €900. This included the technician’s travel to the breakdown location and back, a new Yartu 435/50 R19.5 tyre, fitting and disposal of the removed tyre. The customer confirmed the job and paid for the service via a payment link.
Arranging roadside safety measures for the technician
Because the technician had to work on the left-hand side of the semi-trailer, adjacent to the motorway carriageway, the MT onroad dispatcher asked the customer whether the police had already been called to secure the work area. The customer explained that the driver could not arrange this himself and asked MT onroad for help.
The dispatcher called the police to arrange the required roadside safety measures (Absicherung) for the duration of the replacement work. MT onroad then sent the customer a short message in German. It confirmed that roadside assistance had already been arranged and provided the dispatch team’s contact details. If the driver was approached by police officers or road authority staff, he could show them the message as confirmation that assistance had already been arranged and that MT onroad could be reached using the contact details provided.
While the safety measures were being coordinated, the police initially could not find the customer’s vehicle at the location provided. The dispatcher reconfirmed the stopping location and direction of travel with the customer. The customer confirmed the same location on the A6 towards Germany. MT onroad then provided the details to the police again and continued coordinating the roadside safety measures. The customer subsequently confirmed that the required safety measures for the work area had been arranged.
Result – replacement completed
On site, the technician replaced the damaged left tyre on the semi-trailer and fitted a new Yartu 435/50 R19.5 tyre. The customer then confirmed to MT onroad that the work was complete.

FAQ
Can a truck tyre be replaced directly on a motorway in Germany?
Yes, but not at every location. A mobile truck tyre service can be arranged if work can be carried out safely at the stopping location. If replacement on site is not possible, MT onroad can arrange for the truck to be towed to a safe location or a workshop. If roadside safety measures (Absicherung) are required, work begins only after the area has been secured.
When are roadside safety measures required for replacement work on a motorway?
They may be required if a truck is stopped on a narrow section of motorway or in a roadworks area, or if visibility is limited or traffic is heavy. They may also be necessary if the damaged wheel is on the side facing the carriageway. If Absicherung is required, MT onroad can contact the police or Autobahnmeisterei to arrange the required safety measures.
What affects the cost of a mobile truck tyre replacement on a motorway in Germany?
The price depends on the truck’s location, the distance the mobile service team has to travel to the breakdown location, what size and brand are needed, whether a suitable replacement is in stock, and the work involved. This means that even similar call-outs can have different costs. Based on all the information provided in the request, MT onroad calculates the cost and tells the customer the price before the service team is dispatched.
