Tyre service for a motorhome on a Volvo bus chassis on the A2 near the Lehrte junction
295/80 R22.5 tyre issue on a Volvo bus-chassis motorhome on the A2 near Lehrte. MT onroad arranged tyre service and checked the status of the safety zone
- Location A2, near exit 49 Lehrte, towards Hannover, Germany
- Date 27/06/2026
- ETA 90 min
On 27 June 2026, the technical manager of a company contacted the MT onroad dispatch team about an issue with a 295/80 R22.5 tyre on the rear axle of a motorhome (camper van) weighing over 7.5 tonnes and built on a Volvo bus chassis. The vehicle had stopped on the hard shoulder of the A2 near junction 49 at Lehrte, heading towards Hanover.
An MT onroad specialist clarified the chassis type, the tyre details and the exact stopping location. MT onroad then logged the request and arranged a mobile tyre service call-out. As the motorhome was on the hard shoulder of the motorway, MT onroad also checked the status of the safety zone (Absicherung) that the police had requested.
Why the motorhome required a heavy-vehicle service
Requests of this type are rare for MT onroad: the motorhome weighed over 7.5 tonnes and was built on a Volvo bus chassis. It therefore required a service provider that works with buses and other heavy vehicles. Based on its weight and chassis type, this type of vehicle falls within the scope of MT onroad’s services.
How MT onroad selected the right tyre service for this request
When selecting the service, MT onroad took into account that the motorhome was built on a Volvo bus chassis and used tyres designed for buses. MT onroad therefore looked for a tyre service partner that works with buses and other large vehicles.

The customer sent the details required to arrange the call-out via WhatsApp:
- Vehicle: motorhome on a Volvo bus chassis;
- Axle: rear axle;
- Side: driver’s side;
- Tyre size: 295/80 R22.5;
- Tyre marking: Michelin Multiway;
- Rim: no damage reported by the customer;
- Vehicle position: hard shoulder of the motorway;
- Location: A2 motorway, near junction 49 at Lehrte.
After receiving the details, an MT onroad specialist also asked the customer to confirm the exact stopping location and direction of travel. The customer said that the motorhome was directly on the hard shoulder, heading towards Hanover.
Once the details had been checked, the customer confirmed the order and the call-out terms. MT onroad logged the request. Around ten minutes after the order was confirmed, the customer was given an ETA of approximately 90 minutes for the service team’s arrival.
Police involvement and the safety zone on the motorway
While MT onroad was coordinating the request, the customer reported that the Autobahn police (Autobahnpolizei) had temporarily closed a section of the road so that debris could be removed from the carriageway. MT onroad also checked whether the work area was ready for the mobile service team to work safely. An MT onroad specialist asked the customer whether the safety zone (Absicherung) had already been set up. The customer replied that it was not yet in place, but the police had already instructed that it be arranged.
Later, the customer first confirmed the arrival of the mobile truck tyre service team and then that the safety measures for the work area were in place. MT onroad monitored the status of the call-out and the work and also checked that the required safety zone was in place on the motorway. After the technician had completed the work, the motorhome was able to continue its journey. The customer later confirmed in a chat with an MT onroad specialist that the motorhome had reached its destination safely.

FAQ
Do I need a contract with MT onroad in advance to request assistance for a bus?
No. You do not need a subscription, membership fee or mandatory long-term contract to contact MT onroad. If a passenger-carrying commercial vehicle or another commercial vehicle over 7.5 tonnes breaks down, MT onroad accepts a service request for that specific incident, clarifies the details and agrees the terms for arranging assistance.
Can the call-out price be provided before the mobile tyre service team is dispatched?
Yes. MT onroad requests details about the vehicle, the fault and the location, then calculates and agrees the call-out price and terms with the customer. If additional work is required on site, the dispatcher first agrees it with the customer. Any additional payment can be made immediately after the additional work has been agreed, while the technician is still on site.
Can the mobile tyre service team start work on the hard shoulder before the safety zone (Absicherung) is in place?
A safety zone may be required if the vehicle is stopped on the left side of the motorway, in a roadworks area, on a narrow lane, in poor visibility or close to high-speed traffic. If the work cannot be started safely without it, the technician starts work only after the safety zone has been put in place.
