- Location Hochfelln Süd lorry parking, A8 motorway, Bergen, Bavaria, Germany
- Date 05/07/2026
- ETA 60–90 min
- Final price € 1 250
On 26 June 2026, a representative of the customer contacted the MT onroad dispatch team to arrange the replacement of the right front wheel on a DAF 106 tractor unit. The vehicle was in the lorry parking area at the Hochfelln Süd rest area on the A8 motorway in Bergen (Bavaria), Germany. The driver had a spare wheel on board, but could not fit it himself because the wheel nuts could not be undone without a torque multiplier. On site, the spare wheel turned out to be unusable. MT onroad agreed the fitting of a new Continental 315/60 R22.5 tyre, and the tractor unit continued its journey after the replacement.
The customer representative sent the following details via WhatsApp to arrange the call-out:
- vehicle: DAF 106 tractor unit;
- axle: front axle;
- side: right;
- tyre size: 315/60 R22.5;
- rim condition: undamaged according to the customer;
- spare wheel: available on board;
- location: Hochfelln Süd lorry parking area on the A8 motorway in Bergen.

After verifying the details and confirming the location, MT onroad arranged for a mechanic to attend and fit the customer's spare wheel. Before dispatch, the customer received the price calculation and scope of work:
- call-out to the tractor unit;
- removal of the spare wheel from its carrier;
- removal of the fitted wheel;
- fitting of the spare wheel;
- disposal of the removed tyre;
- mechanic's return journey.
The cost for this option was €500. The customer representative confirmed the order and paid via a payment link. Once the order was logged, MT onroad provided an estimated time of arrival (ETA) for the mechanic: 60–90 minutes.
Why was the spare wheel not fitted?
On site, the mechanic inspected the spare wheel and found severe rim corrosion in the mounting area. Based on the inspection, the mechanic deemed the spare wheel technically unfit for safe fitting and did not approve its use. As a result, the original option of fitting the spare wheel could not be carried out.
The customer also had other spare tyres available. However, after inspecting them, the service partner confirmed that their tread pattern was not suitable for installation on the front steer axle of the tractor unit. These options were therefore also not approved for fitting.
When arranging the call-out, MT onroad took into account the possibility that the spare wheel might prove unusable upon inspection. The mechanic therefore travelled out with a new Continental 315/60 R22.5 tyre suitable for the front axle.
Following the inspection, MT onroad agreed with the customer representative to supply a new Continental 315/60 R22.5 tyre, fit it and balance the wheel for €750. The customer representative confirmed the replacement and made the additional payment. Once confirmed, the mechanic fitted the tyre and balanced the wheel.
Result
The customer initially agreed to a call-out to fit their own spare wheel for €500. After inspecting the wheel, a new Continental tyre including fitting and balancing was agreed separately for €750; the total amount across both payments came to €1,250. Both payments were received in full, and upon completion of the work, MT onroad requested the company details required to issue an invoice for the customer's accounting department.
The work was completed on site, and the tractor unit continued its journey after the replacement.

Have a spare wheel, but the driver cannot fit it independently?
MT onroad arranges a service team call-out to your truck in Germany and Austria to remove the damaged wheel and fit your spare wheel. In this case, only the call-out and agreed mechanic labour are paid in advance. Before fitting, the mechanic checks the condition of the spare wheel and its suitability for the specific axle. If it cannot be used, MT onroad will propose a suitable new tyre and agree its price separately. Additional payment is only required after inspection and only if a new tyre is actually needed.
When organizing the call-out, MT onroad checks in advance whether a new tyre in the required size can be brought along, so that the issue can be resolved during the same visit if necessary. Send us your location, vehicle type, axle, side, tyre size and a photo of your spare wheel via WhatsApp. An MT onroad specialist will review the details and confirm the price and terms before dispatching the team for your mobile truck tyre service.
FAQ
Is any 315/60 R22.5 truck tyre suitable for the front steer axle of a tractor unit?
No. In addition to the size, the mechanic verifies the specific axle application, tyre construction and load/speed ratings. A tyre designed for a drive axle or trailer axle cannot automatically be used on a steer axle. Therefore, when contacting MT onroad, it is important to specify not only the size, but also the axle, side and vehicle type.
What is the difference between a spare wheel and a spare tyre when booking a tyre service?
A spare wheel comes complete mounted on a rim. If it is serviceable, the mechanic simply removes the damaged wheel and fits the spare wheel. If the driver only has a spare tyre, the mechanic must strip the old tyre from the existing rim, mount the spare tyre and balance the wheel if required. This affects the scope of work and final cost.
Why does MT onroad require company details if the service has already been paid in full?
Payment via payment link covers the agreed service, while company details are required by MT onroad to issue a proper tax invoice for the customer's accounting department upon completion of the work. This is not an additional charge, but documentation for a service that has already been paid.
What company details are required for MT onroad to issue an invoice?
To issue an invoice, MT onroad requests the company name, registered billing address and tax details required for the specific jurisdiction. An email address and contact person may also be required for document delivery and order administration.
